Today, John and I finally manage to catch our very first play at the National Library's Drama Center. It's a theater production by W!ld Rice..
I first got to know about them when I was working at my aunt's cafe at the drama center, and getting to meet the cast of their many productions. I have always wanted to watch their productions, but never had the chance to. So when my aunt called me in the late morning to inform me that she has tix for Animal Farm for me, I was elated. I'm looking forward to catching another W!ld Rice production soon, since she gets free tix from them time to time...
ABOUT THE SHOW
“All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others."
Something is going on at Manor Farm. The animals have overthrown Farmer Jones and, with the pigs as leaders, have created a new state for themselves called Animal Farm.
A set of commandments are written as a guide for animal life. However, cunning propaganda hides the true agenda of the pigs as the ideals of the revolution gradually degenerate…
Originally written as a fairy tale, Orwell’s ANIMAL FARM is a startling reminder that absolute power corrupts and that totalitarian regimes inevitably betray the trust of ordinary citizens.
In the hands of director Ivan Heng, this deceptively simple tale of barnyard betrayal gets down on all fours to deliver exciting, powerful and urgent theatre.
With a stunningly agile cast, innovative design and original live music, this ANIMAL FARM is styled for the 21st century. Vital, sexy and wickedly funny, W!LD RICE’s sensational performance will have you squealing for more!
Animal farm is a political play about betrayal, and it is in many ways localized, allowing us to relate to the happenings on stage. It shows how selfishness and power can change people. How absolute power can eventually corrupt and confound our freedom.
One of the things I really like was that they were actually able to capture the minute details of the animals' behavior. And their clever use of music brings much laughter to the audience...
I think this is a play worth watching, I'm glad that my first play was an enjoyable one..
